The “distance symbol” is one of the three symbols taught to Reiki students. It is believed that by invoking this symbol, a Reiki practitioner can channel healing energy to a distant location, regardless of time or distance.
What is Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese stress reduction and relaxation technique that promotes healing. It’s often called “intuitive healing” because it involves channelling universal energy into the recipient.
Reiki can be performed in person, but it can also be done over distance–a practice known as “distance Reiki.” In person, the practitioner places his or her hands on or near the recipient’s body to transfer energy through physical contact. Over distance, the practitioner connects with the energy of the recipient by knowing who they are and where they are – this can be done through intention or using a proxy doll or photograph.

The Energy Field Around the Body
An energy field surrounds the human body. This can be felt by others, and it’s affected by the person’s emotions. It can also be affected by their environment, as well as the healer who is working with them remotely.
Reiki works over distance through this subtle energy field around us all – it flows through us and connects us to each other in ways we don’t always realise or understand fully yet!
How Does Reiki Work on a Distance?
Reiki can travel any distance in time or space by using the “distance symbol”. It enables healers to release obstacles from a client’s past and administer reiki to someone not physically present. Since we are all energy and part of a greater whole, Reiki is based on an ancient principle known as the Hermetic Law of Similarity. By referring to this law, a Reiki practitioner can tap into the recipient’s energy field even from a great distance.
Distance Reiki works by sending healing energy to the person being healed. It’s the same as when you are in the same room with them, except that a practitioner sends them healing energy through time and space instead of physically touching them. You might think of this as similar to how an electric blanket works: wires inside send electricity from one end of it (the plug) to another (the blanket). In this case, though, instead of using electricity as our medium for sending healing energy, we use spirit or “universal life force”, which flows through everything, including us all!
Reiki is powerful and can heal you even if you are separated from your healer.
Reiki is a powerful healing modality that can be used to heal people who are not physically present. We can also use it to heal places. Reiki practitioners often get together in Reiki Shares to send Reiki energy en-mass to a particular event – such as a natural disaster.
Reiki is a form of energy healing, which means it works on the energetic level, not the physical level. This makes it an excellent choice for people who are unable to travel because of illness or disability or want to work with a practitioner who is in another geographical location to them but still wants to receive healing benefits from Reiki treatments.
Distance Reiki can be sent to any person, anywhere, at any time, but the practitioner must first gain the recipient’s permission. A photo of the absent recipient and a healing crystal are my usual tools when conducting distant Reiki. Some Reiki masters may argue that these tools are superfluous because Reiki energy can be channelled to anyone by merely thinking about them. However, sending distance Reiki is a meditative experience for me, and using my ritual helps me focus my healing energy. I occasionally use a proxy as well, which is a crochet doll made especially for this purpose.
I was dubious when I started doing Reiki circles and distant healing. However, as I continued to practise throughout my training, I found that it became easier to establish energetic links with the people I was working with. People often ask me if I’m working on a certain area or say things like “my ears became really warm” after sessions (which I perform either via Zoom or tech-free – which means we communicate via WhatsApp at the start and end of the session); and 9 times out of 10, that was the area I was focused on during the session. Positive effects of Reiki, such as increased calmness, joy, energy, and ease, can be experienced even when practitioners are physically separated by great distances.
Conclusion
Reiki is a powerful healing tool that can help you heal even if you are separated from your healer. We are not fully aware of the energy field around our bodies, but it plays an important role in our health and well-being.
Chi, Qi, or Prana is the universal life force energy that permeates all living things and is available to us all. One method of connecting with and directing this energy so it can be used for healing others is through distant Reiki.
