The upcoming Aries New Moon Solar Eclipse is generating excitement among astrologers for a good reason. This event, which occurs on April 19th/20th (depending on your location), marks a significant new beginning and a period of intense energy shifts.
When and where can I view the New Moon Solar Eclipse?
The eclipse will be best viewed from the eastern Indian Ocean, Australia, Timor-Leste, and Indonesia; however, its effects will be felt worldwide.
For the U.K., the eclipse beings at 02:37 BST on April 20th, peaking at 04:16 BST and concluding at 05:56 BST. The eclipse coincides worldwide, and you can find the times/date for you here.
The New Moon will occur precisely at 05:12 BST on April 20th when the Sun and Moon align in the sky and just four hours before the Sun enters Taurus at 09:13 BST.
What is an Eclipse, and what does that mean spiritually?
A Solar Eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, temporarily blocking the Sun’s light. This eclipse will be a hybrid solar eclipse, a combination of an annular and total eclipse. Eclipses tend to bring surprises and discomfort as they expose realities we must face to develop spiritually and fulfil our soul’s purpose. This solar eclipse occurs in the last degrees of Aries, indicating a period of completion and finality. Whatever came up for you during the first New Moon in Aries on March 21st was only half the story, and this eclipse will expose the rest.
Lunar eclipses happen during full moons, and solar eclipses are during new moons. Eclipses are made possible by the positioning of the Moon and Sun relative to the lunar nodes. Where the orbit of the Moon and the path of the Sun meet is where the North and South Nodes are located. They are mystical and favourable potential centres of energy. During a solar eclipse, we can channel the Moon’s energy, the Sun’s light, and the Moon’s nodes’ vibrations to advance our development.
The Moon, the Sun, and the North and South Nodes can be found within a zodiacal constellation. Currently, the North Node is in Taurus, and the South Node is in Scorpio, forming an opposition. For an eclipse, the Moon and the Sun must be within 17 degrees of either node. This alignment is also responsible for establishing an Eclipse season. On April 8th, 2023, a solar eclipse occurred in the sign of Aries, and on May 10th, 2023, a lunar eclipse will occur in Scorpio.
We’re a few months off the lunar nodes entering Aries and Libra, but because of the proximity of this New Moon in Aries to the North Node in Taurus, a solar eclipse will occur, uniting the Sun, Moon, and North Node. Since this eclipse is the first in a series that will occur on the Aries Libra axis until January 12th, 2025, it provides a glimpse into the future. Eclipse season, in total, lasts for 34 days, so you haven’t just one day to utilise this energy.
How can I make the most of this eclipse?
Aries is associated with boldness, courage, and new beginnings, making it an ideal time to take bold steps towards your goals. However, with any significant energy shift, there is the potential for challenges and upheavals. Aries is a fiery sign that can be impulsive or quick-tempered, making it crucial to remain grounded and focused during this time – do not let the red mist get you! Many astrologers talk about how you must not set intentions during an eclipse. However, I think it very much depends on the intentions, as eclipses are a time for healing, and if your intentions are related to your healing and letting go of what has been – then that is absolutely fine. Eclipse season can be chaotic, intense, and often challenging, so setting brand-new intentions isn’t advised. Trying to manifest love in your life or that fabulous new career – when you haven’t done the work in order to be prepared for that, is going to show up right now. That destabilising chaotic energy will not be conducive to your manifestation practice. If anything, the intention you want to be setting is asking the universe to push you forward on your life path, show you what needs to change, and accept that whatever will be will be – even if it’s uncomfortable and exposing.
This eclipse has a restorative effect – it is about healing. Remember that what may seem like shocking information is all designed to get you back on your feet so you can start fresh. This eclipse will reveal what has ended in your life but you haven’t accepted yet, highlighting circumstances that have completed or are going nowhere. It helps you recognise and let go of behaviours holding you back, allowing you to clear the path for new adventures.
However, disconnecting from this energy will be challenging since clinging to the familiar makes our ego comfortable, even if it is not for our greater good. Expect this transition not to be easy, and conflicts or power struggles with others may arise since Aries values independence and individuality. Being mindful and intentional in your actions is important rather than letting your emotions take over.
With Taurus season approaching and Mercury Retrograde starting on April 21st, also in the sign of Taurus. The mixes of shadow energies – reckless and impulsive Aries, stubborn Taurus, and Mercury, the planet of communication in retrograde- can lead to communication disconnects and budgeting errors. It’s recommended to wait until the solar eclipse and retrograde have passed to have those tough conversations or review budgets or anything financial or contractual.
